Abstracts Submission

 

GUIDELINES FOR ABSTRACTS SUBMISSION

1. Abstract submission deadline

1.1 The deadline for receiving abstracts is Monday, July 17, 2017, considering the date of completion and submission of the electronic form. The deadline will not be extended. Abstract submission does not requires registration for the conference.


2. Submission


2.1 The abstracts should be sent online using the electronic form available at Abstract Submission by clicking on the link provided at the bottom of this page. Abstracts need to be classified according to the following categories:

» Emergencies and Coronary Artery Disease
» End of life, Humanization and Ethics
» Epidemiology
» Hemostasis, Thrombosis and Transfusion
» Infection in critically ill patients
» Management, quality and safety
» Neurocritical care
» Nutritional, Metabolic and Renal Support
» Perioperative Support, Transplant and Trauma
» Prognostic indices
» Respiratory Failure and Mechanical Ventilation
» Sepsis
» Shock and Hemodynamic Monitoring

2.2 After the conclusion of the process, the abstract submission protocol will be sent to the E-mail informed upon registration. 

2.3 The Scientific Committee has the right to change the category of the abstract submitted.


3. The selection committee 


3.1 The abstracts will be analyzed by the Scientific Committee of the 13th World Congress of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine.

3.2 Original works, not presented in other conferences, will be given priority.

3.3 ONLY ORIGINAL ARTICLES, SYSTEMATIC REVIEWS WITH META-ANALYSES OR CASE REPORTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. LITERATURE REVIEWS, EVEN SYTEMATIC REVIEWS, WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AND WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR ANALYSIS.
 
3.4 Case reports are accepted in exceptional cases, only if addressing atypical diseases or presentations that the intensivists should be aware of.         
           
3.5 The Scientific Committee will choose the format - oral presentation or poster. 

3.6 The result of abstract selection will be communicated to the E-mail informed upon registration up to Thursday, August 31, 2017.


4. Abstracts 

4.1   Abstracts should be submitted preferably in English. Abstracts submitted in Portuguese or Spanish will be accepted, but will not be considered for publication on the Journal of Critical Care, as described in item 5.

4.2 One of the authors must be registered and paid for the 13th World Congress of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine within fifteen days after disclosure of selection of the abstract, that is, up to Saturday, September 30, 2017. The registration fee is charged according to the calendar established for the event.          

4.3   To prepare the abstract, the authors may read the guide “How to write a scientific abstract”, which will available at the abstract submission system website. 

4.4 The abstract should not exceed 250 words, and the paper should strictly comply with the formatting instructions described below. Abstracts not complying with the rules will not be considered for evaluation.  

4.5 Title: on the rectangle, include the full title of the paper, first letter in upper case and the remaining in lower case, subject to the rules of using upper case. 
           
4.6 Authors: the full name of authors should be registered on the website. The name of the presenter should be informed. For original articles, the maximum number of authors is eight, for case reports, five. 

4.7 Affiliation: the affiliations should be informed in the system. Only one institution per author is allowed. 

4.8 Abstract text: for original articles, use paragraphs in the subdivisions (Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusion). Do not place introduction or discussion as separate items. The case reports should have a short introduction, case description and comments, all written in a single paragraph, with no subdivisions. Avoid using abbreviations. When abbreviations are absolutely required, write their meaning in full the first time they are used. No pictures and/or tables will be accepted.  References are not necessary, but can be added if the authors consider them essential for understanding the text. They will be included in the 250-word count.

4.9 Changes and/or corrections abstract are allowed up to SEVEN DAYS AFTER SUBMISSION UP TO THE DEADLINE IN JULY 17, 2017. Afterwards, no changes will be allowed.


5. Abstract publication

5.1 The best abstracts, chosen by the Scientific Committee, will be published on the Journal of Critical Care.

5.2 Only abstracts submitted in English will be accepted for publication on the abovementioned journal.

5.3 All other abstracts will be published in a special issue of the Revista Brasileira de Terapia Intensiva.


6. Presentation of the selected abstracts  


6.1 e-Posters: the posters will be presented in electronic format (e-Poster). Upon selection of the abstract (Thursday, August 31, 2017), the authors will be informed about the appropriate preparation. 

6.2 Oral Presentation: the abstract will be presented in a special session during the Conference, on dates to be defined. The presentation format will be informed upon communication of selection.


7. Certificate 

7.1 The certificate will be given in electronic format. The presenting authors may issue their certificates at AMIB website (www.amib.org.br) 15 days after the event.   

7.2 Failure to present the scientific paper will result in no issuance of certificate.


8. Awards

The best abstracts selected for oral presentation in the categories below will be granted specific awards:

- Respiratory Insufficiency and Mechanical Ventilation.
- Sepsis.
- Shock and Hemodynamic Monitoring.
- Management, Quality and Safety.

The awards will be held during the Closing Ceremony. The regulation for the awards will be provided separately.


9. General issues         

9.1 The situations not addressed in the present guidelines shall be resolved by the Scientific Committee of the 13th World Congress of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine.
